Florida: When Hell Freezes Over
Within a snowball's throw of the Governor's Mansion of Ron DeSantis (R-Hades), early morning temperature of 21 degrees, a wind chill of four degrees and a deepish layer of snow.
That photo was taken late Tuesday at the state line along Interstate 10 and posted by someone on Facebook, but this Wednesday morning, all of us in and around Tallahassee awakened to similar scenes.
Here’s what it looks like right now outside of our window:
Ron DeSantis, R-Hades, and his predecessor in the nearby Governor’s Mansion, Rick “Fifth Amendment” Scott, have done their best to transform the sub-tropical paradise of Florida into a netherworld for women, minorities, public school and college students, immigrants, gays and other members of LBGTQ communities, and many others.
Serial hurricanes and extreme heat waves haven’t helped.
But this week, nature has temporarily blanketed over that with a healing (except for the homeless, those working outdoors and for our landscaping) blanket of pure-white gorgeousness.
It’s only the seventh time in the last 130 years that Tallahassee and the surrounding region have experienced measurable snow, and we’re all making the most of it. Here is granddaughter Sophie Fleming, 12, working on her first snowman:
And grandson Sol Fleming, 16, (far right) and his lifelong buddies:
And daughter Allie Fleming, age redacted, and Loki, one year old:
And wife Marion, age also redacted:
And all of that was before the snow really started falling and accumulating overnight.
So, that’s it for now from the Winter Wonderland of North Florida. The staff of Still Not Retired has some outdoor playing to do.
